The Snow Arrives in Chamonix
Just when people had started to feel gloomy about the snow conditions across Europe and the British press started to lament the lack of snow in the headlines, Chamonix is white once again. Those staying in one of our luxury chalets this Christmas can be reassured that they will feel the good stuff beneath their feet on the mountain.
Those looking to get away from it all in a true 5* property this festive season can still book our flagship luxury chalet in Chamonix, Chalet des Drus for Christmas week. Contact Hip for a Christmas you will never forget with all the catering taken care of, leaving you free to enjoy time with your family both on and off the slopes.
So when exactly did the snow arrive? On the evening of the 4th December, some ominous looking clouds rolled in triggering a flurry of excitement both in resort and across social networks. It was soon raining in Chamonix town, rain which started to fall as snow higher up. Those waking up in Chamonix on the morning of the 5th where greeted by a snow-line that gradually descended the valley. By Tuesday 6th, it was actually snowing in Chamonix town, making everyone in the valley walk with a spring in their step!
Many of our luxury chalets in Chamonix are ideally placed to watch the snow gradually cover the mountains. Chalet des Bois and Chalet des Drus which are situated next door to each other in the charming village of Les Bois both benefit from stunning views of the Mont Blanc mountain range.
Every year, there is similar speculation about the snow conditions. If there has been no snow in November, chatter about a poor season will inevitably start. Nevertheless, as the Chamonix Insider sensibly reported in their recent article ‘Relax guys, it’s only November’, the snow patterns vary and there is no need to panic. Many locals say that a late summer is often followed by a slightly later arrival of the snow. In truth, conditions are notoriously hard to predict however most importantly we now have the snow for the resort opening this weekend!
So, if you have been watching the snow reports and holding off arranging that winter ski holiday in one of our luxury chalets, now might be the time to get booking!
